First Run News

Ø  Quiz Bowl practices will be held on Monday, & Tuesday from 3:20 – 4:00pm and on Wednesday & Thursday from 7:10 – 7:45am.  Anyone interested in participating should see Mrs. Perkins in room 1104.

Ø  If you are a junior and interested in a military academy, you must meet certain criteria.   Please see your counselor for the criteria.  Also, The US Naval Academy is holding an admissions forum at the Alexander Fulton Hotel in Alexandria, LA.  It will be held on Saturday, September 11 from 1 -4pm.  See your counselor for more details.

Ø  Anyone interested in WRESTLING for Sulphur High, there will be a meeting next Tuesday, September 7^th @ 6pm in the Auditorium.  At least ONE parent MUST attend for you to register.  Schedules and information packets will be handed out then. 

Ø  There will be a very important senior parent meeting to discuss Homecoming Dance, Prom, and other fundraising activities.  It will be held Tuesday, September 7 at 6:30pm in the SHS library.  Parents, please attend because your cooperation is needed for your senior to have a great year.  Seniors, tell your parents about this important meeting!!

Re-Run News

·    Current Key Club students need to pick up an informational sheet outside the front office.  There will be a Key Club meeting on Thursday, September 16^th in the 9^th grade cafeteria at 6:30pm.  September Service includes Adopt a Spot on Saturday, September 4^th from 8-10.  Meet at the Lions Club for trash pick-up.  A walk to prevent suicide will be held on Saturday, September 11^th at the Sulphur Pavilion.  Sign up with Mrs. Malone for the walk.

·    FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Students) will start our Thursday morning meetings next week!  Meet in the boys gym Thursday at 7:2am for donuts and devotional.  Anyone is welcome to come see what it is all about!

·    The deadline for Beta Club applications, t-shirt size and dues will be September 15^th.  The dues are $35 which covers registration with National Beta and t-shirt.  If you are interested in joining Beta and have a 3.3 GPA, pick up an application and information outside of Ms. Burleigh’s room or in the front office.  You can bring dues to Ms. Burleigh at the main campus or Mr. Clark or Mrs. Landry at the 9^th grade.  If you have questions, e-mail the sponsors at sulphurhighbeta@gmail.com.   The next Beta meeting will be Monday, September 13^th in the 9^th grade library at 5:30pm.  

·    French Club applications are available for pick-up in Madame Lebrun’s room on the 9^th Grade Campus, or may download one from her Blackboard page.  All forms and fees are due in by September 10^th.

·    Student Council members need to pick up a 2010-2011 information sheet from any sponsor.  Information sheets and $20 dues are due back to Mrs. Petross by Wednesday, September 8^th at 3:30pm.

Teacher Announcements

Ø   If you are writing a Drew grant for a projector you CANNOT include the ceiling mount in the price of the grant.

Ø  Drew Grant applications are available on the Grant dept. website.  Grant writing workshops will be held on 09/09/10 and 09/14/10 from 3:30-5:00 in Lab C at the Tech Center.  QSM grant applications can be submitted online at www.seasystem.net/cgi-bin/qsm.  Deadline is 09/17/10.

                    Senior Announcements                        

•       There will be a very important senior parent meeting to discuss Homecoming Dance, Prom, and other fundraising activities.  It will be held Tuesday, September 7 at 6:30pm in the SHS library.  Parents, please attend because your cooperation is needed for your senior to have a great year.  Seniors, tell your parents about this important meeting!!  If you have questions, please call Mandy at 274-5146 or Tammy at 794-0445.

•       The senior counselor will be in all senior English classes the week of September 7-10, 2010 making a presentation entitled, “Everything You Need to Know Your Senior Year.”  Among the topics to be covered are:  the senior calendar, graduation, college/trade school applications, TOPS, LEAP/GEE and ACT testing, endorsements, honor graduate status, scholarships, and financial aid and grants.  Also, an identical meeting for parents will be held Tuesday, September 14^th, at 10 AM in the school library and again at 6:30 PM in the auditorium.

•       McNeese will host three ACT review classes for interested students on Saturdays in September and October.  Subject areas are English/Reading, Math, and Science Reasoning.  The Courses are $69 each or $189 for all three.  If interested, see our counselor for an application.
