A panel of judges selects cheerleaders. Contestants are judged on toe touches, Herkies, an optional jump, tumbling, motion technique, danced technique, spirit and projection, and personal appearance. All candidates are required to perform a back handspring and a tumbling series. Teacher recommendations are a part of the final score. Cheerleaders consist of three squads: the Freshman squad, the Junior Varsity squad, and the Varsity squad.
